The Elementary Division of the Mississippi Music Educators Association will sponsor workshops throughout the 2017-2018 school year. These workshops are designed to foster continuing teacher education and professional growth by providing new ideas, materials, and teaching strategies that may be implemented in the classroom.
School administrators; please consider the Fall Workshop as an opportunity for professional development for your music teacher(s). If it is possible for the school district to provide membership fees, registration fees and/or a professional day for your teachers, this workshop will be a worthwhile use of time and money. Please make plans for your music instructor(s) to attend.
The Core of a Creative Classroom -Dena Byers
In this workshop, we will explore activities that focus on body percussion, speech, singing, pitched and non-pitched percussion and the learning stages used in Orff Schulwerk: Imitation, Exploration, Literacy and Improvisation. We will also experience effective lessons that utilize a developmental, step by step teaching sequence. Participants will sing, say, dance, play and experience the process to implement creative, collaborative and critical thinking skills that are essential in a 21st century music classroom.
