Virtual Junior High District/State Choral Festival

Good afternoon,

In light of the rising number of COVID cases in Mississippi, the MMEA Junior High Board has decided to offer a virtual choral festival for the Spring semester in lieu of District and State Choral Festival.  We encourage all middle school choir programs to participate!  However, there is no obligation to participate.  This festival will be for comments only, with no ratings.

More specific information including instructions, forms, etc. will come out on January 4th.  Below is a brief overview of what we are offering.

2021 State Choral Performance Assessment

Deadline to register – March 1st
Deadline to upload – March 31st
Comments sent to directors – April 16th

Groups will upload an unedited video or audio performance of two festival appropriate selections to a Google Drive Folder provided by their District Chair.  Each group will be adjudicated by six qualified adjudicators and comments will be sent in written form to directors.

The cost to participate is $10 per Ensemble/Choir with a $50 cap for each school.  If a school has more than five groups participate, they will only pay $50.

There will be no Sight-Reading component to this Virtual Festival.

Please check your email in the first few days of January for all of the information about the festival and how to register and submit.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
