GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi and the Nissan Foundation are offering a FREE online Professional Development Workshop for educators in grades 4-12 entitled Right to Write, Music’s Journey to Freedom: Using My Pencil to Peacefully Protest. This program is designed to utilize the music of the Civil Rights Movement to help students explore the history of the Movement and events that developed locally in Mississippi as well as on the national level. This workshop uses historical content and music to encourage students to discuss issues of diversity, inclusion and social equity present in today’s society as well as engage students on ways to address the critical social issues they experience in every-day life. Students will learn the power of musical lyrics as a means of activism to create positive social change. This program offers 0.5 CEU Credits through Delta State University.
